American Idol: Ginormous is Now Dead
Times Union - Television &bull May 10, 2012Things we learned tonight: I dunno if you knew this y'all, but Randy Jackson was in Journey. As a studio musician. Also, I completely forgot/didn't know that Joshua was a Season 10 Auditioner. Does anyone else remember him last year? He didn't make it through. This really is the season of bringing back everyone who was awesome. Speaking of awesome, real quick I just want to say that in the contest between American Idol and The Voice, I… Full Story »

American Idol: Phillip Gets Away With It
Times Union - Television &bull May 3, 2012I missed last week's results show where Elise went home - I got to see Albany High School's production of My Fair Lady, and it was spectacular! (It didn't hurt that they thought I was a high school student. Then… Full Story »

American Idol: Save Elise, Save Elise's Dog
Times Union - Television &bull Apr 19, 2012Welcome to American Idol, where apparently a white dude with a guitar can cover a black dude's dance song and get a standing ovation while the really great performers tonight don't get one. Anyway, I can tell Ryan Seacrest was definitely shaken up by Dick Clark's death - he was not his happy jovial self to start the show, and he just seemed a bit downcast. That's where I think… Full Story »

The Voice: Last Singers Standing
Times Union - Television &bull Jun 1, 2011Welcome to the last episode of the "Battle Rounds." Mark Burnett, if you're reading, I want you to consider mashing these episodes into 2 two-hour specials, because I got bored during episode 2. In case you're like me and bored and forgot how this works, a quick primer. Originally, the 4 coaches/judges listened to contestants sing, and decided on them based on "The Voice" alone. Having picked 8 each, they then moved to these weak battle rounds (which, to be fair, were exciting at first) wherein the judges… Full Story »

Best.Finale.Ever?
Times Union - Television &bull May 26, 2011Guys. Guys, I got choked up a bit, not gonna lie. Me and Idol have a tortured relationship, but I hate to see it end! Of course, last year's finale I desperately wanted an ending to, because it was so terrible. I hate Chicago and Hall and Oates and the Bee Gees and Michael McDonald and I just wanted it to GO AWAY. But even this year with its shoddy judging, I have to say I didn't want this finale to end. I didn't care which country singer won, and I just wanted to keep watching. It was fun! This… Full Story »

I'm just here for David Cook.
Times Union - Television &bull May 25, 2011Okay, breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out. As some of you may have seen in my earlier post, Lauren Alaina suffered vocal problems less than 30 minutes before the finale. Haley Reinhart was rushed into wardrobe and rehearsals just in case, and she was to sing "House of the Rising Sun," "I Who Have Nothing," and "Bennie and the Jets" if Lauren wasn't able to perform. I learned this 20 minutes before the show when I came back in from outside to make dinner. Between that and Chris Meloni exiting SVU, I was completely and utterly in shock… Full Story »

If Jennifer was a contestant...
Times Union - Television &bull May 6, 2011I don't think Jennifer Lopez would crack the top 10 of American Idol if she was competing. Not that that's entirely a bad thing for careers - Lady Antebellum was on the show tonight performing their new single and it turns out that Hilary, one of the lead singers, auditioned for Idol years back and didn't even get to the judges. Ahh well, we can't win them all. Tonight, Ryan says we might be surprised by who… Full Story »
