'American Idol' Watchalong: Rock shock - Pedro and the Watcher - The Orange County Register
pedrowatcher.ocregister.com via @WatcherofTV &bull May 13, 2011This nasty habit began in season one, when the inevitable Tamyra Gray-Kelly Clarkson showdown at the finale was short-circuited by Tamyra's departure. LaToya London seemed like Fantasia's chief challenger until she left in fourth place in season three. Since then, we've stopped sticking our fingers in the outlets. LaKisha Jones, Jason Castro, Allison Iraheta, Michael Lynche - fine singers all, but none of them was a serious contender to win. What happens tonight? Do we give ourselves the full 110 volts and kick off Good Ol' Scotty McCreery? Or do we just dump Haley Winehouse and calmly move… Full Story »

'American Idol' Watchalong: 21st mirthday - Pedro and the Watcher - The Orange County Register
pedrowatcher.ocregister.com via @WatcherofTV &bull Apr 21, 2011We welcomed our new overlords early in the season, not just for Steven's wackiness but for the incisive commentary they offered - a welcome relief from years of Paula's and Karandy's droning nonsense. The villagers have responded by getting out the torches and pitchforks. A few more weeks of this, and Nigel Lythgoe is going to have to go shopping again this off-season. Now they are stars in the making" the next title shrieks. We soon learn why the opening is being rushed. We're going to be treated to a bonus Horrifying Group Sing featuring the six ousted performers from… Full Story »

'American Idol' Watchalong: Honky Kitties - Pedro and the Watcher - The Orange County Register
pedrowatcher.ocregister.com via @WatcherofTV &bull Mar 31, 2011As for "American Idol," I still have no idea what's going on. Preseason favorites are crashing, wild cards are thriving, and every week a different singer comes out on top. All we need now is for Sanjaya to show up. Apparently, the Watcher is not the only one who is confused, as the director seems to think this is Thursday night. The episode begins with a recap of the previous outing, and I'm momentarily excited by the prospect of getting rid of two contestants without having to listen to them sing. But the director is just trying to remind us… Full Story »

Unbeknownst to most of the contestants, Sir Elton did have one or two other decent songs, and I suspect we should be in for… Full Story »

'American Idol' Watchalong: Grab the cash - Pedro and the Watcher - The Orange County Register
pedrowatcher.ocregister.com via @WatcherofTV &bull Mar 11, 2011That's when I realized what was at stake, and the horrifying memories came flooding back: the Horrifying Group Sing, the Giant Industrial Company Commercial, the lame guest stars, the product placement, the time-wasting chit-chat. A long, hysterically rapid introduction aims to recap Wednesday's events, but it is so chopped up it's impossible to discern any information from it. After the credits, we return to a more sane, sedate atmosphere as Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler stroll onto stage, followed by Ryan Seacrest. J-Lo appears to have… Full Story »
